PPA 52-Sketch Challenge

Today, I have another card for you inspired by this week's sketch challenge at Pal's Paper Arts.  Sketches are a great way to get inspiration for a design of your own.  They provide a great starting point for a card.  After I get my sketch, I like to select my color scheme, often inspired by one of our designer series paper lines.  Finally, I select the stamp set that I would like to work with.  This is a great way to give yourself guidelines when you just can't think of what you want to do.  You can also select a theme as well to help narrow all the choices that you need to make when designing a card.  Hope these tips help!

Here are the ingredients for this card:

Stamps: Just Believe
Paper: Pacific Point, Basic Black, Very Vanilla, Blueberry Crisp DSP
Ink: Crumb Cake, Pacific Point
Accessories: 5/8" Basic Black Grosgrain, Staple

PPA 51-Wedding Card Challenge

Today, I decided to take a break from my intensive scrapbooking to make some cards. I got my two new catalog shipments this week and decided to take some time to play with some of my new goodies. I got some new scrapbooking materials too which I hope to try out this week.

So, my inspiration for this card came from the Pals Paper Arts Challenge. This week's challenge was to create a wedding theme card. This gave me an opportunity to use one of my new sentiment sets. Here are the details:

Stamps: Word Play
Paper: Whisper White, Daffodil Delight, Greenhouse Gala DSP
Ink: Crumb Cake
Accessories: Daffodil Delight 5/8" Grosgrain, Beautiful Wings Embosslits, Dazzling Diamonds Glitter

Some New Goodies

I have been really getting into scrapbooking this week with the class I am taking. I am currently at 5 pages which is amazing for me. Between playing with the kids, going to kid activities, work, and housework, I am lucky if I get one page done a month. This class is really motivating me and getting me to make time! For some reason, I really love to scrapbook in the summer, so that helps too. I finally really got a chance to dig into my new supplies. For these pages, I used one of our new Designer Series papers and its coordinating stamp set. All of the buttons used on the pages are retired. I am waiting for my next order to update my button supply.

Here are the ingredients:

Stamps: Friends Never Fade
Paper: Greenhouse Gala DSP, Not Quite Navy, Baja Breeze, Sahara Sand, Travel Journal DSP
Ink: Baja Breeze
Accessories: Not Quite Navy Brads, Boho Blossoms Punch, 2-3/8 Scallop Circle Punch, 1-3/4 Circle Punch, Assorted Buttons, Whisper White 1/4" Grosgrain Ribbon, Staples, Naturally Serif Sizzix Die

Today, we say farewell to some much cherished favorites as we prepare to welcome some new goodies tomorrow. For my farewell, I decided to post this card that I made for last week's Stamp-A-Stack. It uses Green Galore, one of the retiring colors and some of our retiring ribbon. I also welcome back one of my favorite colors, Pink Pirouette. It is a great card for summer!

Here are the ingredients:
Stamps: Tart and Tangy, Short & Sweet
Paper: Real Red, Green Galore, Pink Pirouette, Whisper White
Ink: Real Red, Pink Pirouette, Green Galore

Unexpected Scrapbooking

These pictures are ones I never expected to scrapbook. I had planned on putting all my honeymoon pictures in a picture album, but when our summer mini catalog came out with our new travel paper and stamp set, I had to pull these pictures out of hiding. I am selecting the best pictures from our trip to scrapbook, not all of them. I know for many people it can be difficult to not scrap all your pictures, but picking out a select few and not overloading your page truly draws your attention to the pictures you do select. You can always use your journaling to fill in the gaps.

Here are the ingredients:
Stamps: Baroque Motifs, Sentimental Journey
Paper: Travel Journal, Garden Green, Pumpkin Pie, Bashful Blue
Ink: Crumb Cake, Night of Navy
Accessories: Mini Library Clip, Jumbo Brad, Top Note Sizzix Die, Curly Label Punch, 1" Circle Punch, 1 1/4" Circle Punch, Word Window Punch

I'm Back!

I must apologize for my disappearance over the last two months. We went on vacation in May and I never seemed to recover! Now that I am getting into the summer routine, I am ready to get back into the blogosphere. I am also taking an online scrapbooking class over the next month, so plan on seeing some extra scrapbook pages over the next few weeks. To start things out, I decided to check out the Mojo Monday sketch challenge for this week and this is what I came up with. I decided to mix a little old with a little new. I used some of our retiring Designer Series Paper, ribbon, and buttons along with some materials in our new core colors, Daffodil Delight and Baja Breeze.

Here are the ingredients:
Stamps: Inspired By Nature, Just Buzzin' By
Paper: Daffodil Delight, Certainly Celery, Baja Breeze, Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Chip DSP, Green House Gala DSP
Ink: Certainly Celery, Chocolate Chip, Daffodil Delight, Blush Blossom and Baja Breeze Markers
Accessories: Chocolate Chip 5/8" Grosgrain, Daffodil Delight 1/8" Taffeta, Chocolate Chip Corduroy Buttons, Scallop Circle Punch, 1-1/4" Circle Punch, Curly Label Punch

Fluttering On Bye

I must say I will be sad to see some of our great long standing colors flutter away like butterflies this summer, but I can't wait to try out the next hottest batch of colors. It is like a super In-Color release, except they'll be around a lot longer...even better. Speaking of In-Color, the hot news on those is that they will now be around for two years instead of one and 5 new In-Colors will be released annually!

So today's card pays tribute to some of our parting colors: Summer Sun, Taken with Teal and Sage Shadow. What a better way to pay tribute than with beautiful butterflies (not to mention that I just got this embosslit and had to use it!). So here are the ingredients for this oh so simple card:

Stamps: Well Scripted
Paper: Summer Sun, Taken with Teal, Sage Shadow, Whisper White
Ink: Taken with Teal
Accessories: Sizzix Big Shot, Beautiful Wings Embosslit, Mini Glue Dots

The Color Renovation Unveiled

Many of you may have already seen the color changes that will be occurring. From what I hear, many stamping sites are a buzz with the change. In case you have not been privy to these changes, I wanted to make sure you have a place to see what all the excitement is about. As I think I mentioned the other day, I can't wait to get them in my hands! Feel free to email me with any questions regarding the Color Renovation.

Birthday Sketch Challenge

Recently, we had a demonstrator sketch challenge and this was my sample I contributed. I so love these colors together! I used them in a couple samples that I did for my display board and fell in love with the combo. I think this combo will also start making an appearance in my kids' scrapbooks!

Are you wondering about the diagonal striped paper? I used the striped paper from the Thoroughly Modern DSP and cut it at an angle to get diagonal stripes. It is a great way to add additional variety to your designer series papers.

So here are my ingredients:
Stamps: Party Hearty
Paper: So Saffron, Soft Suede, Taken with Teal, Pumpkin Pie, Whisper White, Thoroughly Modern DSP
Ink: So Saffron and Pumpkin Pie Classic Pads, Taken with Teal and Pumpkin Pie Stampin' Write Markers
Accessories: Pumpkin Pie Corduroy Buttons, Linen Thread, 1 1/4" Circle Punch, Modern Label Punch, Sizzix Big Shot, Lots of Tags Die

Color, Color, Color!

I am so excited to share with you the news that Stampin' Up! released today. As of July, we will have a "Color Renovation". In this Color Renovation, we will say farewell to some old favorites but be welcoming back some of our favorite In Colors from the past few years. I know some of you are going to be so excited to see what will be returning! We also will be introducing several new colors. I can't wait for you to see them. You will see them popping up in my blog early this summer! Watch for some hints in the samples I post before then to see which In Colors we will be welcoming back.

Spring Is In the Air

As I listen to the birds singing their song in my backyard, I think a nice spring card is appropriate for today. I made this card for my aunt last week. All of a sudden, I had a desire to try Pretty In Pink, Ruby Red and Barely Banana together. Love what I got!

Here are the ingredients:
Stamps: Flight of the Butterfly
Paper: Pretty In Pink, Ruby Red, Barely Banana Whisper White
Ink: Pretty In Pink, Ruby Red, Barely Banana
Accessories: Butterfly Punch, Scallop Trim Border Punch, Mini Glue Dots

A Simple Page with Stamps

This post is long overdue. I have been wanting to post a scrapbook page for a while. This page is so simple! This is actually my second of this style. I took my grandparents wedding photo for the page. The Bella Bleu Designer Series paper is great for heritage pages. The ribbon I used is retired, but there are other ribbons that would coordinate just as well with the page. I will eventually use the area below the "Love" to journal. Here are the details:

Stamps: Lovely Letters Alphabet
Paper: Not Quite Navy, Very Vanilla, Bella Bleu Designer Series Paper
Ink: Not Quite Navy Craft
Accessories: Dressed Up Ribbon Originals® (Retired), Long Board, Big Shot Die Cutter, Serif Essentials Alphabet Die

Creativity Rut

First, I must start out by saying I am so sorry that it has taken me so long to post. I have been in a bit of a creative rut, and I don't like to post CASEd work on my blog. With spring somewhat in the air, it has given me a bit of a creative surge. I already have my next 2 posts ready to go after this. So you should expect some new material next week :). My current creative state seems to be in the simple stage. So I think the things I will have to offer will be easily duplicated for you all. Also, be on the look out for my first scrap post.

This card gave me the opportunity to try out a set I purchased this winter and just could not break out until the buds began to bloom. The colors for this one came from a demonstrator color challenge of Cameo Coral, Apricot Appeal, Lavender Lace, Certainly Celery and Whisper White. I used the Cameo Coral subtly...see if you can spot it!

Stamps: Herb Expressions
Paper: Apricot Appeal, Lavender Lace, Certainly Celery
Ink: Certainly Celery Classic Pad, Cameo Coral Marker
Accessories: Color Spritzer Tool, Big Shot Die-Cut Machine, Frame Oval Scallop Die, White Uni-ball® Signo Gel Pen

Hostess Gift

I am feeling bad that it has been a while since I last posted. Today you may notice some changes in my blog template. I am still working on making the background appealing without taking away from the content, which is most important. So please excuse the background while it is "under construction". I wanted to let you know that you can now view my blog directly from my Stampin' Up! website at www.amyhoffman.stampinup.net

Today, I thought I'd share the gift that I gave to my hostess this past weekend. The flower that I used on the bag will be one of the flowers featured in my May Flowers class. If you are interested in the class, let me know and I will work with those interested when scheduling a date.

Simple Birthday

This was my card for a demonstrator "Clean and Simple" challenge to use no layers for a card. This is proof that it you can accomplish a polished looking card without layers. While this type of card will not be my norm, I shall add it to my occasional repertoire.

Here are the minimal ingredients:
Stamps: Happy Moments
Paper: Whisper White
Ink: Rich Razzleberry, Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry (mostly markers-some water coloring)
Accessories: Ruler, Water Color Brush

Not My Usual Color Scheme

For some reason this week, I seem to be focusing my blog posts on color. This sample was created using a color challenge I got from my fellow Stampin' Up! demonstrators to use white, black and grey. I was hesitant at first but was so happy with my results. Sometimes you need to step out of your color zone of comfort and see where it may take you. Try these colors out on your projects today and you may be pleasantly surprised!

Here is what I used:
Stamps: Vintage Labels, Vintage Vogue
Ink: Whisper White Craft
Paper: Whisper White, Basic Black, Basic Grey
Accessories: White Embossing Powder, Big Shot Die Cutter, Little Leaves Die

Sending Best Wishes of Love

Here is a card that can have a variety of uses. It can be used for a Valentine card, wedding card, anniversary card, or for any occasion you would like to send best wishes to someone you love. The color scheme for this card was taken right from our Designer Series paper, Thoroughly Modern. A customer asked me last week how I got my color inspiration. While I have many sources, one great inspiration can come from any of the designer series lines of paper. So if you're stuck in a color rut, try the designer series paper colors for inspiration.

Here are this card's ingredients:
Stamps: I {Heart} Hearts, Vintage Labels
Ink: Bermuda Bay, Soft Suede
Paper: Rose Red, Soft Suede, Bermuda Bay, Thoroughly Modern DSP, Whisper White
Accessories: Stampin' Dimensionals, Wide Oval Punch, Bermuda Bay Polka Dot Grosgrain

Valentine Lollipops

I made these Valentines last year for my son's class. They were super easy! I used paper that is now retired, but you can swap out the Designer Series paper with a new one and new colors. Use the slit punch to create a slot to tuck the card closed and slide stick of lollipop into. I'll try to make a new one with up to date paper to show the versatility of the project.

Here are the supplies used excluding paper and ink:
Stamps: Love You Much
Accessories: Heart to Heart Punch, Scallop Square Punch, 1-1/4" Square Punch, Slit Punch

My Version of Thomas

My little ones are going to a birthday party tomorrow for a little one who loves "Thomas the Train". I decided to try tackling turning our Choo Choo train into Thomas and am quite pleased with my outcome. I love how the ribbon gives the appearance of a track. My little judges approved as well except my oldest was quick to point out the pieces that Thomas does not have. Oh well! Hope to have some Valentines up next week. We finally got our foyer, living room and hall painted so I had limited access to my stamping area this week.

Here are the supplies for this one:
Stamps: Choo Choo
Paper: Tempting Turquoise, Real Red, Whisper White
Ink: Tempting Turquoise, Real Red and Night of Navy Markers, Craft Whisper White
Accessories: 3/4" Real Red Polka Dot Grosgrain (reverse side), Stampin' Dimensionals

Haitian Relief

I am so happy to announce that Stampin' Up! has given us a way to contribute in a small way through our stamping hobby to the Haitian Relief effort. Over the last week, I have been brought to tears several times a day as I hear the stories of devastation that have ravaged this already struggling country.

From now until February 28, 2010, $2 from every I {Heart} Hearts stamp set sold will be donated to the American Red Cross Haiti Relief and Development Fund. The Red Cross is already well-established in Haiti, and this money will be used to provide immediate relief and long-term support through supplies, technical assistance and other support to help those in need.

This is only a small way we can help. I encourage those wishing to do more seek out other outlets to reach out in addition to this one! Thank you in advance for your help!

New Punch Design

I am so excited! Yesterday my order of new supplies arrived and I am so loving everything. I am thoroughly enjoying the new punch design! They seem even sturdier than the old design (if you can believe that!) and they are going to be so much easier to store! I am starting to work on Valentines for my upcoming Stamp-A-Stack on January 28th. Hopefully, I will be able to give you a sneak peek next week! Can't wait to share my new inspiration with all of you!

Sending Sympathy

My least favorite cards to make are sympathy cards becuase of the sadness associated with them. This should probably be on the list of "do ahead card"s so it is not something you are needing to work on when your heart is sad for someone. On the other hand, sometimes the sadness in your heart creates great inspiration to send condolences of love to those hurting deeply. Here is some inspiration for those difficult cards to make:

Stamps: Thoughts and Prayers
Paper: Certainly Celery, Almost Amethyst, Lavendar Lace, Whisper White
Ink: Certainly Celery Stampin' Write Marker, Lavendar Lace Classic Pad and Stampin' Write Marker
Accessories: Certainly Celery 1/4" Grosgrain Ribbon, Wide Oval Punch, Sizzix Lots of Tags Die, Sizzix Big Shot

Birthdays A Plenty

As my son is getting invited to more birthday parties, I am finding myself making more birthday cards. I am going to try to make a supply of cards to have on hand for these occasions. If we have an invite at a busy time of year, I will be able to just go to my little card box and pull one out. Birthday cards tend to be the cards we need the most. So when you have a free moment, sit down and stamp a pile of birthday cards so you have one if you need it in a pinch.

Here are the supplies for this card (I love the color combo!):

Stamps Sets: Choo Choo, Flight of the Butterfly
Paper: Certainly Celery, Bermuda Bay, Not Quite Navy, Whisper White
Ink: Certainly Celery, Bermuda Bay, Not Quite Navy
Accessories: 1/2" Circle Punch, Not Quite Navy Brads
